It’s an exciting time for LEED users – the first drafts of LEED v5 are expected this fall! What started with “the Future of LEED” sessions in 2022, and creating new USGBC LEED v5 Consensus Committees this year, will now become far more tangible as drafts are made available for public review.

Maintaining a holistic rating system requires periodic review of the latest market capabilities, priorities, and expectations. LEED v5 is an opportunity for an important refresh. CAGBC staff are particularly excited about the chance to better address operational and embodied carbon, as well as adaptation and resiliency. LEED v5 also allows us to consider the breadth and complexity of credit requirements, trimming and simplifying where it makes sense.

We’ll be bringing updates to you regularly as drafts and new information become available from the USGBC. We expect new information on LEED for Operations and Maintenance to be available in early fall, with LEED for Building Design and Construction by the end of the year.

Members interested in helping ensure the Canadian market’s needs are represented in LEED v5 development are encouraged to join our new CAGBC LEED v5 Accelerators.
