The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) recently announced the 2025 class of LEED Fellows. They recognized twenty-three professionals from around the world for their mastery of LEED, the world’s most widely used green building rating system, and exceptional work in advancing green building practices.
Among this year’s honorees is Urban Equation’s Fin MacDonald, a former CAGBC employee that helped launch the Zero Carbon Building Standards in Canada.
Advancing decarbonization

Fin has dedicated his career to driving decarbonization strategies and zero-carbon policy both nationally and internationally. From 2017 to 2022, he served as Manager of the Zero Carbon Building Program at CAGBC, driving adoption across the industry. He continues to support the organization with his expertise as a member of the CAGBC Zero Carbon Building Steering Committee, which guides the program’s evolution.
With experience advancing zero-carbon and LEED Platinum projects, Fin now leads the Energy and Carbon Advisory Practice at Urban Equation, where he develops and implements strategies to help organizations transition to zero carbon, including district and renewable energy feasibility, community energy planning, zero-carbon building strategies, and sustainability planning.
“Fin MacDonald has committed his career to advancing sustainability and decarbonization in the industry,” said Thomas Mueller, CAGBC’s President & CEO. “CAGBC commends Fin for his leadership in mainstreaming green building practices across Canada and for making a difference in reducing our collective impact on the natural environment.”
