What’s next for LEED v5

- Rating System/Standard
- LEED v5
LEED v5, released earlier this year, raises the bar on sustainability, and unlocks new ways to deliver improvements in ecological conservation and restoration, quality of life, and decarbonization. Project registration has been available since LEED v5 launched, through the enhanced Arc Platform.
However, the market has been eagerly awaiting the LEED Forms, the calculators, and other supporting tools and resources to support certification. Many of these are expected to be released later this year, allowing projects to begin their certification journey with LEED v5. Until these are released, only the project teams that joined the LEED v5 O+M beta testing have been able to complete their certification journey.
Over the last several months, CAGBC’s committees (Energy & Engineering and Embodied Carbon Technical Advisory Groups, the two LEED v5 Accelerators, and the CAGBC LEED Advisory Committee) have reviewed the LEED v5 rating systems and reference guides and are proposing a selection of Canadian Regional Alternative Compliance Paths (RACPs) to the USGBC, for inclusion in LEED v5 in early 2026. These RACPs will reflect Canadian-specific standards that project teams may wish to use, such as the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) 2020. Currently, only one RACP for Canada has been posted, as it was carried over from LEED v4 (and incidentally, LEED Canada 2009), for a definition of prime farmland.
