New Nova Scotia energy benchmarking pilot to help building owners manage energy and water consumption

Halifax, NS – June 16, 2020 – Nova Scotia Department of Energy and Mines (NSDEM), along with program partners Efficiency Nova Scotia and the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), today launched the Nova Scotia Energy Benchmarking Pilot Program to help building owners improve building efficiency.
The pilot, funded by Natural Resources Canada and NSDEM, supports building owners and operators’ efforts to reduce energy consumption and transition to the mandatory building energy labeling initiative announced by the federal government in the Pan Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.
The Program, which plans to enrol 25 buildings in year one, 150 in year two, and 200 in year three, will help improve building energy efficiency and contribute to significant energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction by providing owners with information about their building.
By using the free and secure web-based tool, ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®, owners of mixed-use, residential, commercial, and institutional buildings can discover the operational efficiencies of their properties, and benchmark against others in the sector to find ways to optimize and save money.
Building owners, managers and investors will be encouraged use the pilot program to help set investment priorities, identify under-performing buildings, verify efficiency improvements, and facilitate accreditation in Canadian green building programs.
