What is ZCB-Essentials?
ZCB-Essentials is a curated bundle of specialized courses from the people who brought you the Zero Carbon Building Standards. To earn the ZCB-Essentials badge, learners must complete the following stages and earn a minimum of 80% on course quizzes.

Introduction to the ZCB Standards
Get started with an overview of the micro-credential framework, what constitutes a zero-carbon building, and the guiding principles of the Zero Carbon Building Standards.
In this introductory course, participants will gain clarity on what constitutes a zero- carbon building and be introduced to the core concepts of low carbon building design and operation. Participants will learn about the requirements of the ZCB-Design and ZCB-Performance Standards, and the certification process.
The introduction is a pre-requisite for all other ZCB-Essentials courses. To earn credit for this course, you must view the webinar in full and complete the post session online quiz with a passing grade of at least 80%.
The Introduction can be taken on its own or as part of the ZCB-Essentials Bundle. It is delivered either as an on-demand, or as a live webinar with an instructor and the ability to ask questions. Check our Event Calendar for the next live webinar date.
Core Concepts Modules
Five on-demand courses that focus on critical foundational knowledge for zero carbon building projects.
Completion of all five courses with a minimum of 80% in all quizzes is required before participating in the Workshop. All courses are available individually and as part of the ZCB-Essentials Bundle .
Zero Carbon Building Standards Interactive Workshop
Apply your new skills working through real-world examples with our experienced instructors.
Leveraging the successes and lessons learned from buildings certified under the Zero Carbon Building Standards, the interactive workshop provides a comprehensive understanding of how to use the ZCB Standards and their technical resources. Participants will learn and apply in-depth core requirements, guidelines and processes for meeting ZCB-Design v3 and ZCB-Performance v2 certifications.
The workshop uses existing case studies to deliver hands-on activities that incorporate the ZCB Workbooks and submittal documents, offering practical insights on how to use these tools to document compliance as part of the certification process.
The ZCB Interactive Workshop is offered quarterly in a live webinar format over two sessions running 2.5 hours each. Participants must meet all prerequisite requirements and achieve 80% on the final quiz to earn the ZCB-Essentials micro-credential badge.
