Under the direction of the Director, Project Development and Research, the Project Manager – Research is responsible for advancing clear, accessible research focusing on systems-level challenges in the green building industry, working collaboratively with consultants and partners. Core topics for CAGBC research focus on workforce and skills development, financing, certifications, policy, and drivers for green building adoption. The Project Manager- Research will scope areas of focus for research; leverage critical data to inform market positioning; develop proposals to support research funding from government, industry and foundations; and manage research outputs to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Director, Project Development and Research, the Project Manager – Research is responsible for advancing clear, accessible research focusing on systems-level challenges in the green building industry, working collaboratively with consultants and partners. Core topics for CAGBC research focus on workforce and skills development, financing, certifications, policy, and drivers for green building adoption. The Project Manager- Research will scope areas of focus for research; leverage critical data to inform market positioning; develop proposals to support research funding from government, industry and foundations; and manage research outputs to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities

Research

  • Engage with a range of stakeholders across industry, government and the non-profit sector to understand critical challenges and opportunities relevant to the adoption green building to inform research priorities;
  • Draft scopes of work for RFPs and consultants;
  • Oversee consultants executing data analysis, stakeholder engagement and writing research reports to further CAGBC research objectives and ensure CAGBC’s standard of excellence is maintained;
  • Contribute to organizational strategy with evidence-based insights;
  • Engage closely with other CAGBC teams to understand priorities across teams and how to integrate these into timely research;
  • Draft research reports when required.

Proposal and Project Support

  • Evaluate opportunities for strategic engagement with industry, government and non-profits and directly engage when appropriate;
  • Draft proposals to support business development/fundraising for research, working to secure funds from government, foundations and industry to support CAGBC research objectives;
  • Draft reports to inform funders of research progress and achievements;
  • Track and manage funding for research projects in collaboration with Project Manager(s) and Coordinator(s);
  • Identify and track impact metrics that speak to the value of green building in the wider real estate market, and deliver KPI reports and brief narrative reports for senior leadership.

Required Experience
  • Three to five years of experience in research related to business impact metrics in real estate, finance, or investment.
  • Clear interest and passion to continually learn more about green building and the built environment is a must. Experience in corporate social responsibility, ESG reporting, and/or green building strongly preferred.
  • A post-secondary degree in a relevant field.
  • Ability to speak, write, and read French preferred.

  • Superior analytical, synthesis and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for diverse audiences; familiarity with research and data analysis tools.
  • Superior written communication skills and the ability to convey complex concepts in clear, accessible language for different audiences.
  • Strategic thinker and agile problem solver with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent research and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects concurrently with conflicting priorities while ensuring a high quality of execution and performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise diplomacy and build rapport as well as maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders such as government and industry personnel.
  • Good judgement, and fully capable of working in a team-oriented, virtual, hybrid and in-person environment.
  • Able to work with a diverse group of stakeholders, anticipating needs and issues in advance, and comfortable with working through contentious matters when necessary.
  • Capacity to complete tasks in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to travel in Canada and attend in-person events.

Pay:

$70,000.00-$81,000.00 per year
