Through market engagement, training, advocacy and trusted building certification programs like LEED and the Zero Carbon Building Standards, CAGBC provides the expertise Canada’s building sector needs to understand the value of green buildings.

Our members are critical to transforming Canada’s buildings, reducing emissions, and ultimately, contributing to Canada’s climate targets. The CAGBC Market Engagement Team plays a key role in supporting this journey and is a conduit to connect Canada’s building and real estate sectors. We mobilize members and other stakeholders by creating opportunities for them to connect, share knowledge, learn and contribute to the future of green building.

Job Purpose

As a key member of the Market Engagement Team, the Business Development Specialist is responsible for the development and growth of CAGBC’s green building programs and community in the Quebec market. This diverse and dynamic role is key to: expanding the uptake of CAGBC certification programs and standards, membership offerings and other CAGBC products and services in the province; establishing and maintaining relationships with both existing and prospective customers and members; and articulating the value of CAGBC and its programs to the Quebec market. You have existing knowledge of the green building market and by leveraging established contacts, you will be able to take responsibility for the growth of CAGBC in the region, while supporting nation-wide initiatives. This role interacts with all departments and levels of the organization across Canada.

Responsibilities

Business Development and Growth

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop business opportunities, including cultivating and maintaining a pipeline to strengthen uptake and grow the client base for certifications, memberships, sponsorships and learning services.
  • Develop and manage key stakeholder relationships with existing and new clients, members and stakeholders.
  • Conduct research to understand short and long-term market needs and prepare market insights.
  • Contribute to and deliver on CAGBC’s growth and marketing plans including: developing and presenting proposals; preparing and delivering presentations; leading face to face meetings; and reporting on business activity.
  • Liaise with members and other stakeholders to understand priorities needed to shape future CAGBC strategies and implementation plans.
  • Identify opportunities and work with the broader CAGBC Team to develop and implement new value-added products, programming, services and certification opportunities in the province.
  • Engage with current members and prospects to keep them informed of green building program updates, CAGBC’s activities, initiatives and opportunities to participate.

Stakeholder Facilitation & Engagement

  • Assist in developing and overseeing engagement activities and programming that aligns with market needs, securing member and stakeholder participation and sponsorships as appropriate.
  • Identify, develop and maintain relationships with clients, members, sponsors, regional stakeholders and supporters in line with CAGBC’s strategic objectives and annual workplans.
  • Assist in the creation of and oversee the execution of market growth strategies and plans for Quebec in alignment with the national strategy.

Leadership

  • Act as a market resource and first line of contact for clients, members, stakeholders and CAGBC staff
  • Represent CAGBC as a subject matter expert at conferences, events and on committees as directed.
  • Promote company image and products at business related events.

Required Experience
  • Undergraduate degree or Post-secondary Diploma (3 year) in a related field.
  • Minimum four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in the commercial building industry preferred (Real Estate, Construction/project Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, Architecture).
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP credential preferred.
Skills
  • Strong business acumen and business or market development skills.
  • Demonstrated polished and professional verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Good facilitation skills and the capability to lead stakeholder groups.
  • Strong understanding of green building, the Quebec building and real estate sectors and demonstrated expertise to support the market.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects concurrently.
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with senior-level decision makers.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing go-to-market strategies.
  • Strong computer skills including: Office 365, SharePoint, Teams and database applications. Prior experience with CRM systems is beneficial.
  • Bilingual French and English (verbal and written, including presentation skills) required.
