The Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) is a not-for-profit organization empowering the building sector to accelerate climate action. Through market engagement, education, government advocacy and trusted certification programs like Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED), the Zero Carbon Building Standards (ZCB), and Investor Ready Energy Efficiency (IREE), we equip the building sector with the tools needed to capitalize on the value of green buildings.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Market Engagement (the “Supervisor”), the Business Development Advisor is responsible for driving the growth of CAGBC’s certification, verification, private learning and other client-based products and services (“CAGBC Products and Services”). This dynamic role engages with existing and potential clients, as well as other building sector stakeholders, to articulate the value of CAGBC Products and Services for their businesses.

We are seeking an energetic, customer-focused and multi-faceted individual who can leverage their existing skills and green building knowledge to develop results-driven strategies and who can build trusted connections to ensure sustainable growth for CAGBC Products and Services.

Responsibilities

Business development

  • New Business: Create strategies to identify and develop business opportunities, including managing a pipeline that ensures organizational revenue and growth goals are met.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and nurture relationships at all levels of client organizations, including sustainability leaders and business decision-makers, as well as with influencers such as investors, architects, consultants, developers, industry associations and governments.
  • Client Engagement: Develop account plans, conduct face-to-face meetings, present business cases and prepare a variety of reports including meeting summaries.
  • Target Setting & Reporting: Set annual, quarterly and monthly growth objectives to meet revenue goals and track, analyze and report on key performance metrics.
  • Market Research: Conduct market research, analyze trends and gather feedback to understand needs, prepare outlooks and forecasts, and support the on-going improvement of business development strategies and tactics.

Teamwork and Leadership

  • Supervision: Oversee the activities of Business Development Specialists and other staff as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Collaboration: Work with the broader CAGBC team to identify and coordinate business opportunities and to develop and implement new value-added products, services, and programming opportunities.
  • Customer Service: Act as a key contact for CAGBC Product and Services issues and coordinate with the CAGBC Green Building Program team for the resolution of technical inquiries.
  • Promotion: Keep clients, members and stakeholders informed of CAGBC Product and Service updates and opportunities to participate with CAGBC, including representing CAGBC at conferences, events and on committees.

Other Responsibilities

Required Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree (preferably in Business, Marketing, or discipline related to the building sector)
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience including B2B business development, key account management and/or market development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP credential is desirable.
Skills
  • Proven business acumen with a focus on business development and customer service.
  • Polished verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Relationship building expertise with senior decision makers.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills,
  • Understanding of green building. Familiarity with LEED, zero carbon buildings and other programs is advantageous.
  • Experience in the commercial building sector preferred (e.g. Real Estate, Construction/project Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, Architecture).
  • Strong computer skills including Office 365, CRM and database applications.
  • Bilingual French and English is an asset.
