At Building Lasting Change™ (BLC), Canada’s green building conference, the conversation doesn’t stay in the meeting room. Back by popular demand, our signature building tours take you inside some of Montréal’s high-performing buildings.
Held on June 17 and 18, these tours offer a rare opportunity to explore projects that demonstrate how sustainability strategies perform in practice. Featuring commercial, institutional and multi-unit residential buildings, BLC 2026 building tours will grant you behind-the-scenes access to the inner workings of high-performance buildings, from advanced mechanical systems to low-carbon materials and integrated design approaches.
Projects
Hôtel de Ville
This technical tour focuses on the restoration and modernization of Montreal City Hall, a heritage building of national significance located in Old Montréal, recognized as a historic site and situated within an area of exceptional heritage value.
The tour will serve as an exemplary case study, illustrating the integration of heritage conservation, environmental performance, and the transformation of existing buildings within a public institutional context.
Place Banque Nationale

Visiting the LEED Gold certified Place Banque Nationale will provide a firsthand look at how this innovative, vertically integrated community connected to the city was brought to life. The tour will highlight the quality and execution behind this landmark project, as well as the collaboration among the many stakeholders involved in its design and construction. Participants will gain insight into the challenges of integrating systems within a complex, high-performance building, while learning how MSDL and Pageau Morel contributed to the project’s successful delivery.

Winner of the C40 Reinventing Cities international competition, Haléco is a real estate development designed around an ambitious vision of environmental performance, social innovation, and urban resilience. Recognizable for its original façade, this LEED Platinum certified building is fully electric and connected to Energir’s district thermal energy network. It features a high‑performance building envelope and manages nearly all rainwater on site through vegetated retention basins and underground reservoirs, alongside other key elements.
Édifice Hélène-Desmarais – HEC Centre Ville
Heralding HEC Montréal’s return to downtown, the Hélène Desmarais Building combines modernity, functionality and sustainability. The Hélène Desmarais Building has integrated sustainable development principles from the earliest stages of its collaborative design and will continue doing so long after it has opened for business. It is a space for innovation and a model of sustainability that also helps to bolster the collective influence of a strong network of community members. The project respects provincial sustainable development requirements and is certified LEED Gold.
CertainTeed Zero Carbon Drywall/Gypsum Plan
CertainTeed’s Sainte-Catherine plant was transformed to become North America’s first net-zero carbon (Scope 1 & 2) gypsum wallboard plant and the largest of its kind in the world. Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at this major electrification project that transformed the plant and propelled the launch of the new Infinaé Carbon Low gypsum wallboard category in Canada which is estimated to have up to 60% less embodied carbon cradle-to-gate.
