The bulk of the proposed National Model Building Codes for 2025 are now out for public comment. There are several exciting changes coming, including:

  • Operational GHG targets. That’s right, carbon will be in the code.
  • Absolute EUI compliance path. You won’t necessarily have to compare your design to a reference building.
  • Updates to better address retrofits. We all know existing buildings are key to hitting our GHG targets.
  • More current climatic data. The weather is changing, let’s design for something closer to what we can expect today and into the future.

To review the changes, we suggest looking at the summary by subject for the National Building Code and the National Energy Code for Buildings.

The public review will run from February 27 to April 29, 2024. We encourage you to review the changes and provide your feedback here.
