Most common LEED v4.1 substitutions – and why teams choose them

LEED® v4 BD+C project teams are encouraged to take advantage of the expanded compliance pathways, reduced thresholds, and greater flexibility available with LEED v4.1 credit substitution. All LEED v4.1 BD+C are available for substitution; however, CAGBC reviewer favourites are listed below. See the introduction of the LEED v4.1 BD+C Beta Guide for substitution methodology. | LT – Surrounding Density and Diverse Uses | LEED v4.1 adds a Walkable Location option using Walk Score®, providing a quick way to earn up to five points. | Avoids detailed density calculations and provides assurance of potential points. |
| LT – Reduced Parking Footprint | LEED v4.1 includes three new options, allowing additional strategies for diverse project types. Requirement for carpool preferred parking has been removed. | Gives project teams more flexibility. |

| MR – Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction | For projects completing a Whole Building Life-Cycle Assessment (wbLCA), LEED v4.1 offers a range of points from simply completing a wbLCA (for one point), to significant reductions for four points. | Project teams will find the new approach encourages the exploration of wbLCA by rewarding from entry level to higher levels of reductions. |
