Over 75 building retrofit projects to date in Canada have received Investor Ready Energy Efficiency™ (IREE) certification. CAGBC continues to see the Canadian market interest in the program grow, making retrofits more attractive to building owners, and leveraging funding opportunities to accelerate reductions.

The program continues to mature and evolve. Last fall, guidance for adaptive reuse of buildings was published. The Investor Confidence Project’s (ICP) Adaptive Reuse Addendum aims to address the unique challenges of certifying energy efficiency projects in buildings without available baseline data due to factors such as space type conversions, prolonged periods of vacancy, or recent property acquisition that limit access to historical operational data.

Last December, CAGBC hosted a webinar to discuss Building Retrofit Confidence & Capacity with IREE Certification which was very well attended. If you missed it, the webinar is available on demand (and free for CAGBC members) at this link.

To continue building knowledge, USGBC is providing free training by request until May 31st, 2025. This training provides project developers, energy service providers, contractors, and quality assurance assessors with a comprehensive view of the requirements of the ICP Protocols and what it takes to get complete IREE certification. Those interested should request access to the ICP Investor Ready Energy Efficiency Certification Training Course. Once you’ve completed the form, USGBC will reach out to provide access.
