National Issue Accelerators

Accelerator groups bring together members who support CAGBC’s vision and want to tackle specific issues and opportunities. These groups provide the insights needed to drive positive change in Canada’s built environment through discussion and collaboration.  Current accelerator groups include:

LEED v5 Accelerators (BD+C and O+M): Feedback from CAGBC membership is critical to ensuring the Canadian market’s needs are represented in the development of LEED v5. These Accelerators review and discuss the LEED v5 drafts when they are made available, to inform and support CAGBC’s feedback to USGBC. Participants are expected to bring experience with LEED (LEED APs with Specialities preferred). Two Accelerators are available:

  • Building Design and Construction (BD+C)
  • Operations and Maintenance (O+M).

Zero Carbon Transition Planning Accelerator: This accelerator identifies and addresses industry needs in support of decarbonizing existing buildings. Key outcomes are expected to include guidance and training for portfolio and asset-level zero-carbon transition plans. This accelerator also fosters alignment between programs and tools developed by organizations and jurisdictions across the country.

Standing Committees

Standing Committees are longer- term CAGBC committees that exist to support a program or provide ongoing technical advice. They are open to all members at the Specialist level.

Interested in getting involved? CAGBC posts application opportunities approximately every second year through the CAGBC Technical Bulletin (available to members at the Specialist level), the CAGBC Member Newsletter, and through website news and social posts.

Zero Carbon Steering Committee

CAGBC’s Zero Carbon Building Standards were developed through consultation with experts and stakeholders across the country. They are guided by the Zero Carbon Steering Committee, which help advance zero carbon buildings and retrofits.

CAGBC LEED Advisory Committee

The CAGBC LEED Advisory Committee replaced the LEED Canada Steering Committee in late 2023, as the senior committee supporting the LEED program. This committee identifies Canadian market needs and opportunities for the LEED program as well as advising on opportunities for alignment across CAGBC’s green building programs.

Technical Advisory Groups

CAGBC’s Technical Advisory Groups play a role in shaping LEED and other rating systems for the Canadian market, providing CAGBC with in-depth technical support for the development and implementation of green building programs. There are currently two TAGs:

  • Energy and Engineering TAG (E&E TAG)
  • Embodied Carbon TAG (EC TAG)
