Job Purpose

Reporting to the VP, Green Building Programs and Innovation, and part of the Green Building Team, the Business Development, Certification representative is accountable for key account management; market and customer growth; and enabling a superior customer experience. By working closely with industry stakeholders, this position is responsible for articulating the value of CAGBC certification products, particularly LEED, ICP IREE and TRUE Zero Waste, to foster a favourable marketplace for green building approaches, programs and products.

Responsibilities
  • Promote awareness, understanding, and support for the Certification programs to build and maintain a pipeline of projects, address market gaps and needs, and nurture new opportunities
  • Develop and manage key stakeholder relationships and partnerships amongst owners, investors, consultants, developers, industry associations, governments, and others to strengthen market uptake and grow the client base
  • Engage with key accounts to optimize customer satisfaction, identify opportunities, and promote certification
  • Refine and implement marketing strategies with clear, measurable objectives and goals, focused on customer base growth and satisfaction
  • Continually improve business development strategies by evaluating market models, identifying gaps, as well as researching and segmenting customer interests and needs
  • Represent the CAGBC, as directed, at stakeholder meetings, conferences, and other industry events to raise awareness and expand the market for green building products and services
  • Through networking and customer engagements such as workshops, industry-specific events, executive briefings, and direct meetings with decision-makers, promote CAGBC as a trusted industry advisor
  • Support the activities of the Green Building team and the Client Experience team with regular, two-way communication and information sharing related to potential transaction volumes, challenges, and opportunities
  • Work in conjunction with the Manager, Zero Carbon Program to identify and coordinate business development activities
  • Assist with responses to inquiries from the media, stakeholders, and others
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Business, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Architecture); an advanced degree is preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in business development, account management, client engagement, or sales.
Skills
  • Superior business development and/or account management experience in building-related industries
  • Ability to quickly develop and support networks of key stakeholders
  • Working understanding of Green Building, products, and certification programs (or the capacity to develop knowledge quickly)
  • Knowledge of LEED rating systems (LEED AP), Zero Carbon Building Standard, TRUE Zero Waste (TRUE Advisor), ICP IREE (certification training), sustainability or green building practices preferred
  • Comfortable connecting with and presenting to all levels of management and all types of stakeholders
  • Polished and professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and find solutions
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Tech-savvy with knowledge of Office 365 and database applications
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset
  • Willing and eligible to obtain Secret Level 2 Security Clearance with the Government of Canada
  • Travel in Canada expected
