Striking a balance between carbon reduction, health and resilience

The reality of climate change is upon us. Future-proofing Canada’s building stock to respond to our new reality requires actionable solutions that balance the need to reduce carbon emissions with enhanced resilience and improved health and well-being in the spaces where we work, live and play.

New, low carbon green buildings are part of the solution, but it will also be essential to retrofit the millions of square feet of existing buildings to achieve our social, economic and environmental objectives. Canada must step up its efforts to establish a retrofit economy that attracts investments for recommissioning, renewable energy, performance measurement, and fuel switching actions. We need to prepare Canada’s workforce with the skillsets required to be successful in a low carbon world. And to accelerate the achievement of our goals, we must aim for the highest levels of sustainability tools and programs and ramp up the use of the latest innovations in green building technology and materials.

This is the path leading us forward to greater technological and environmental advancements that will build lasting change.

We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver.

Delivery Models

The program committee is looking to assemble a dynamic education program that gives delegates an interesting selection of session styles designed to enhance their time at the conference. When applying to present at Building Lasting Change, you will have the option to choose the delivery model that best suits your content and presentation style. Choose all that apply and the committee will be in touch to finesse the details with the successful applicants.

Interactive Learning (two-hour session)

Lead a mini workshop within the conference program for enhanced hands-on learning.

These hands-on, facilitated learning sessions will be enhanced with the support and guidance of the CaGBC education team. Building on the concepts proposed by the applicants, our education experts will help create and deliver a two-hour session to achieve key learning objectives.

International

Provide global green building insights that shine light on new approaches and innovation.

New perspectives, best practices and leading examples from outside of Canada provide valuable insight for our delegates. Ideally, there will be one international presentation in each stream.

Panel Presentation

Propose a panel of subject matter experts for a cohesive, aligned session, with different perspectives.

These sessions are submitted as a fully integrated session or panel discussion with no more than three presenters. The presentation should be configured to provide equal time for each speaker and allow for questions from the audience. Panelists may be from different companies.

Policy

Suggest policy-centric sessions that discuss the impact and potential for growth and change in the green building industry.

As the political landscape in North America morphs into a new reality, discussions around current policies, proposed changes and future requirements will influence every aspect of the industry. One session in each stream will address relevant/related policy and the advocacy positions taken.

Technical Deep Dive

Skip the formalities and take a closer look at the details.

These sessions provide delegates with the opportunity to participate in a technical, comprehensive exploration of a specific, issue-driven deep dive. If you have something that fits the bill in any of the streams, select this model and provide delegates with in-depth insights they might not otherwise receive.

Tour (two-hour session)

Showcase a site or project that’s close to the Vancouver Convention Centre and accessible by bike, foot or kayak, or augment your unique teaching style by taking participants outside.

This year we are integrating tours into the education program on core conference days. Two hours will be allotted to each tour, which will be designed with the support of the CaGBC education team to deliver a unique learning experience to delegates who are up for a little adventure.
