Red River College Innovation Centre

DURATION: 1 hour

Performing energy modelling early in the design phase can have huge benefits to a project – including saving money in long-term operations, decreasing emissions associated with the building, and assisting the operations’ staff in the on-going performance of the building.

The Innovation Centre at Red River College is a high-performance building in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, one of the first in the region to target net-zero while adding to a historic building. Targeting an EUI of 100, the design process made use of cloud computing for early phase energy modelling, extensive energy data from similar building types, hybrid modelling to overcome software obstacles, and employed a design assist process for the design of BIPV panels. This case study offers valuable lessons and practical advice on how to meet ambitious energy targets while using technically advanced methods and technologies.

This course is delivered by Michael Leckman of Diamond Schmitt Architects, Ali Nazari of Integral Group, and Steve Kemp of RDH Building Science.
