EPDs for the Construction Industry

Environmental Product Declarations for the Construction Industry: How product labeling can inform zero and low carbon buildings

DURATION: 1 hour

Are we entering a renaissance in product transparency and lifecycle performance metrics? Will it change the way we manufacture and use materials? Will it lead to better buildings? Come explore these questions with industry experts, using a recent construction industry EPD as a case study.

While a long time coming, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are still a emerging tool for green building professionals. This webinar will:
• Provide participants with an overview of the current state of play for EPD development in Canada;
• Examine how supply chain EPDs can drive transparency and innovation in lower carbon materials, using the recently published Canadian industry average Environmental Product Declaration for portland cement (GU) and portland-limestone cement (GUL) within a case study
• Discuss where construction industry EPDs sit in the overall design and decision framework for building the low to zero carbon buildings of the future.

This course was delivered by Adam Auer of the Cement Association of Canada, Jamie Meil of the Athena Sustainable Materials Institute and Hilary Davies of the CSA Group.
