As new versions of the LEED rating systems are introduced, earlier versions are phased out so that we are constantly pushing for the transformation we aspire to.
LEED Canada rating systems
The deadline for submitting for certification review under LEED Canada rating systems is six (6) years from the close of registration, as outlined in the table below. Projects pursuing a split review must submit for First Construction Review. Projects may elect to upgrade, at no cost, to a later version of LEED. Projects that do not meet this timeline will no longer be eligible for certification and will be removed from the LEED registered project database on the CaGBC website. To re-qualify for certification, they will be required to register under the version of the rating system that is current at that time, and pay all applicable fees.
Certification will be supported for one year following the sunset date, as outlined in the table below. The CaGBC will consider submittal deadline extensions on a case-by-case basis.*
Project teams that require assistance upgrading a project or have any other concerns should contact the CaGBC at:

* For an extension, the project team must provide a comparison with the rating system version that they would otherwise upgrade to, in order to demonstrate that the project could not achieve certification under the newer version. Project teams should inform the CaGBC once it is known that the sunset date cannot be met. If an extension is granted, the project team will receive a formal letter of extension that includes a set schedule for the project team. A certification surcharge may apply.
