Event highlights

Zero Carbon Innovation Forum: The All-Electric Building is a series of in-depth sessions to explore key strategies for Zero Carbon Building.

Heating buildings is typically the largest greenhouse gas emission load for buildings in Canada. Emerging technologies for heating buildings with electricity (particularly heat-pumps) are common features in Zero Carbon Building projects seeking to take advantage of the lower emissions factor associated with electricity in Ontario relative to more common natural gas heating.

The session's panel discussion topics will include:

- The status of electric heating technology today and on the horizon
- A case study of the heating system design for Zero carbon Building - certified Evolv1 in Waterloo, ON
- Implications of electric heating on the design process, including energy simulation
- Evaluating the business case for electrically heated building
- Implementation challenges through construction and operation of electrically heated buildings

About the Zero Carbon Innovation Series

The Zero Carbon Innovation Series is a set of regional events advancing awareness and capacity for Zero Carbon Buildings in Canada. The inaugural series in 2018 sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric showcased Evolv1 - Canada's first Zero Carbon Building - certified project and highlighted the role of heat-pump technology in meeting major heating demand with low-carbon electricity.
