Program developed in collaboration with National Resources Canada

Ottawa’s aging building stock is reaching the point where major renovations are needed to address building durability, occupant comfort and aesthetics. Building owners need cost-effective solutions that offer greater potential for resale, tenant retention and business development. NRCan has been using the LEEP program to build innovative industry partnerships and help Canadians achieve deep energy retrofits. In collaboration with builders, manufacturers, municipalities, developers, AEC consultants and property owners, we are developing high-performance prototypes, using new technologies and finding cost-effective strategies to reduce GHG emissions from existing housing stock up to 30% overall, by 2030. This afternoon session will showcase varied perspectives, present feasible, cost-effective solutions for large-scale energy upgrades to existing building stock and quite possibly, inspire optimism in the face of an unprecedented industry challenge.
