The CaGBC is pleased to announce that Cascadia Windows is the winner of our 2018 Green Building Product of the Year Award for their Universal Series product line. The company was on hand to receive the award at the Building Lasting Change 2018 Awards Gala Dinner on June 6, presented by Joseph Hosey, General Manager, UL Canada, the sponsor of the Award.

“Cascadia Windows’ team is very grateful for the fantastic acknowledgment from the CaGBC for naming our Universal Series windows and doors Product of the Year,” says Michael Blousfield, Technical Director and Operations Manager at Cascadia. “It’s a great made-in-Canada moment, and we are proud to be the first company in North America to be offering this innovative, leading-edge technology.”

A made-in-Canada solution that improves efficiency by reducing heat loss through the building envelope

Product submissions were assessed based on four key areas: sustainability, transparency and verification, innovation, and application.

Cascadia’s Universal Series was chosen by the jury because of the product’s solid construction fibreglass and long life span rated at 50+ years. Jury members also noted that this is a great Canadian success story, as this is the first product line of its kind to be manufactured in Canada, with most comparable windows coming from Europe.

Fibreglass windows offer an 85 per cent improvement on the thermal performance of aluminum windows, which translates to a substantial reduction in heat loss through the building envelope. Studies have shown that windows have the potential to influence up to 50 per cent or more of the total energy used in buildings, making window improvements one of the easiest ways to reduce energy use and environmental impacts of buildings.

Features

The Cascadia Universal Series is an all-fibreglass system showcasing the latest in energy-efficient window and door technology. The product is designed to optimize thermal performance, structural capacity, esthetics, hardware flexibility, site tolerance, cost and ease of manufacturing.

The performance features of Cascadia’s fibreglass-framed windows and doors include:

  • Allows less heat or cold to travel through the frame material, reducing the energy needed to heat or cool a building.
  • Able to withstand high wind loads and extreme temperatures.
  • Greater stability in terms of expansion and contraction during changing temperatures, reducing the stress placed on joints, seals and gaskets and thereby reducing leaks and building maintenance costs.
  • Not susceptible to decay, mildew, UV degradation or corrosion due to being inorganic and chemically inert.
  • Expected life span of 50+ years.
  • Strong condensation resistance.
  • Low embodied energy materials.
