Energy Management Specialist

Atlantic Canada or Quebec (remote / home office)
September 2020 – August 2021 (1- year contract) with the possibility of renewal

 

Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) is acting now to create the change we need. Because what is considered green today must be challenged to have an impact tomorrow. As a sustainability professional, your expertise in energy benchmarking, performance reporting and, data analytics will help CaGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. Canada (GBCI CA) efforts to support building performance to develop Canada’s retrofit market capacity further and improve real estate industry data transparency.

Reporting directly to the Energy Management Advisor (“Supervisor”), the Energy Management Specialist will be responsible for coordinating stakeholder engagement and facilitating collaborative partnerships, conducting financial analyses, and project budget management for retrofit financing initiatives, preparing original content for reports and presentations and analyzing and interpreting building energy and carbon data. This role involves working across all divisions and levels of the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and delivery of building energy performance initiatives such as CaGBC’s Disclosure Challenge.
  • Provide project management support including planning, monitoring deliverables, tracking expenses, scheduling meetings and communications.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships and drive stakeholder engagement with building owners and managers, utilities, engineering firms and local government to strengthen their participation in CaGBC programs.
  • Work with energy management data collection and reporting platforms such as Energy Star Portfolio Manager™, the Standard Energy Efficiency Data Platform™ and/or ARC to interpret and reconcile energy and carbon data for program participants and partners.
  • Track and report program metrics through qualitative and quantitative methods, including for funded initiatives, and work closely with colleagues to discuss results and propose strategic improvements.
  • Monitor collaborative demand-side management and conservation programs, energy benchmarking, disclosure and labelling initiatives, and utility rebate opportunities across Canada.
  • Provide energy management subject matter support to CaGBC and GBCI CA employees as required.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Solid written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak and write clearly, succinctly, and persuasively with/for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, critical thinking and analysis capacity, including the ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects concurrently.
  • Proven ability to interpret and integrate complex technical information, contracts and service agreements.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships and facilitate stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated energy management knowledge and experience, including conducting research and analysis on energy efficiency for the built environment.
  • Additional Skills

  • Bilingualism (French/English) preferred
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Completion of the Certified Energy Manager exam under the Canadian Institute for Energy Training considered an asset (equivalencies considered)
  • Education and Experience Requirements

  • Good judgment, relationship-building skills, and fully capable of working in a team-oriented, virtual environment.
  • Minimum of three years of energy management experience, with demonstrated experience in energy audits, recommissioning or building baseline assessments.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field such as sustainability, engineering, energy management, facilities management
