Communications and Marketing Specialist

(14 month contract, possibility of permanent employment)
Ottawa, ON

CaGBC is seeking a professional with demonstrated excellence in communicating and marketing our green products to the broader public audience. The Communications and Marketing Specialist creates original written content, manages the production and distribution of information to internal and external audiences, and is involved in the development of communication plans and distribution strategies to make green building information accessible to professionals and the general public.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding writing, editing and curating skills, particularly with digital communications; have a customer-service mindset and take initiative with a demonstrated ability to be creative under pressure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop original content for internal and external communications and marketing materials and lead and execute the outreach strategy to varied audiences
  • Actively lead and monitor CaGBC’s presence on social media, ensuring the impact of the Council’s overall communications strategy
  • Manage the production and distribution of the CaGBC newsletters and other electronic communications to stakeholders
  • Develop and manage a strategy for the ongoing renewal of the CaGBC website to ensure information is current, user-friendly, and maintains modern design principles and SEO standards
  • Coordinate response to LEED branding questions and requests for clarification
  • Support to other Marketing and Communications projects as needed, including digital advertising and event promotions.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in a related field (Communications, Marketing, Journalism, etc.) and 5+ years’ professional experience or relevant writing experience; equivalencies will be considered
  • Technical writing experience and/or working knowledge of environmental issues and/or sustainable development with experience in green building design and construction is an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in in developing and optimizing social media for the wider audience, and understanding the digital landscape including using social media platforms (Hootsuite, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) including analytics for each

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated experience working on the ongoing maintenance of website content and design, as well as design capabilities (Adobe Suite – In Design, Photoshop, HTML) considered an asset
  • Familiarity with repositioning and rebranding communication exercises an asset
  • Fluency in both official languages is preferred (written and oral)
