As Project Manager, Mr. Holtforster led the City of Richmond in developing the $178 million Richmond Speed Skating Oval that will host the long track speed skating competitions at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The Richmond Oval won’t just be a showcase for sports, it will also be a model for cutting-edge green design, breaking new ground for sports and wellness facilities across the country. Designed to qualify for LEED Silver certification, elements such as the use of salvaged pine-beetle kill wood, collection of storm water, reuse of thermal energy and reuse of on-site timber were incorporated into the Richmond Oval development. Mr. Holtforster has explored these and other sustainable design objects pursued and met for the project.
