The Emerging Green Builders is a committee of the Quebec Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). The committee is in its fourth year of existence, and this was a decisive year for the EGBs as they established themselves as a gathering of students and young professionals interested in creating a more sustainable built environment. Our principal objective is to create a platform for the exchange of information, tools, knowledge and ideas between students and professionals working in the field of sustainable building and planning. This year, we have built solid foundations that will allow the EGBs to pursue their objectives in the years to come.
The group is presently composed of ten active volunteer members, whose academic and professional backgrounds are a perfect example of what we encourage - a gathering of diverse and complementary skills that encourage openness of mind and the emergence of new ideas.
The EGBs hope that the built environment becomes an important instrument of sustainable development, serving as an economic engine, a tool for densification, greening and environmental conservation, and a rallying point that unifies and supports the community. This vision is one of a restored urban fabric, evolving at the rhythm of its occupants, supporting their activities and encouraging their fulfillment beyond the established boundaries. This vision is one of the green cities where the community is invited to actively participate in environmental protection. The raison d’être of the EGBs is to call upon the Quebec society to undertake an ecological evolution through a change in its building practices.
Membership in the EGB Committee provides a unique opportunity to meet other professionals and students who wish to make sustainable development a part of our way of life and of our identity as Quebecers and Canadians. It is also a platform to learn about new developments towards sustainability.
The coming year promises to be full of activity starting with a Greendating event at the launch of the season in September. This will be followed by two Green Storming events and two more Greendating throughout the year. What's more, several workshops will be added to the calendar as the season progresses.
Partnership Proposal
This year, the Emerging Green Builders wish to further pursue their efforts by wanting to integrate educational establishments in the heart of their group. For this purpose, the Emerging Green Builders wish to propose a partnership with student associations and other groups having similar interests. The Emerging Green Builders thus offer free registration to groups working in the field of sustainable development. This registration includes 2 free passes for all the activities of the Quebec Chapter of the Canadian green Building Council and all the activities organized by the Emerging Green Builders. We simply ask you to give us the names of the 2 people who will represent your group 24 hours before each event by writing to . In return, we ask that you communicate the invitations and information of the events, which you will receive by email, to all the members of your group. For this reason it is important to indicate the email address of the person responsible for such communications on the group’s registration card. Other partnership arrangements are also possible, for example it is possible to carry out activities in partnership with the Emerging Green Builders and benefit from our network of contacts and other advantages.
