Designing sustainable buildings may bring new expectations and risks to design professionals, contractors, subcontractors, as well as material and system suppliers and others who are involved in the building process. Insurance carriers have raised concern about these additional risks. Owners are concerned about not realizing proposed certification goals, anticipated energy savings and associated cost savings.
Panelists Michael Johnson, Aon's national team leader in the area of Architects and Engineering liability, Sarantos Mattheos, lawyer with Thompson Dorfman Sweatman and Greg Fisk, Vice President, Marsh Canada gave a a brief presentation that was followed by a lively Q&A session.
The sold out audience participated in a discussion about insurance policies, contracts and how design professionals can mitigate any additional risks designing and constructing sustainable buildings.
