Mission

The CaGBC Alberta Chapter seeks to:

Lead and accelerate the transformation to high-performing, healthy green buildings, homes and communities throughout Alberta.

Goals

In collaboration with partners in industry and government, the Alberta Chapter will:

• Certify 10,000 commercial / institutional buildings and 100,000 homes by 2012.

• Achieve zero impact from buildings and communities by 2030.  Zero impact refers to sustainable use of energy, water, materials and land (improved efficiency, reduced pollution and environmental impacts). Regarding energy use, zero impact means ‘carbon-neutral’ buildings and communities by 2025.

• The Alberta Chapter will work towards becoming a 'carbon-neutral' organization by 2009.

Background

The CaGBC was formally founded as a not-for-profit in December 2002. It represents a coalition of public and private building industry leaders, who promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, economically viable and healthy places to live and work in.

In May 2004, the Alberta Chapter was incorporated as a registered society. The Alberta Chapter is governed by a board of directors and its work is divided among three committees: programs, membership and finance. The activities and events organized by the Chapter focus on education and promotion of sustainable building.
