OTTAWA, June 17, 2010 – With final attendance numbers calculated, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) announced today that 1,300 green building professionals came together in Vancouver last week to attend the 3rd Annual National Green Building conference. The event attracted individuals and companies from across the country and around the world.

A complete spectrum of green building professionals were represented; architects, engineers, academics, developers, residential builders, commercial contractors and real estate experts all took in the informative education sessions and lively panel discussions. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson welcomed delegates on the first day of the conference. BC Premier Gordon Campbell, and Carnegie Mellon University’s Vivian Loftness provided keynote addresses to motivate delegates in their thinking to strive toward creating a more sustainably built environment.

“After the success of the 'greenest' Winter Olympics in history, it’s no surprise that the conference’s theme of building performance, and delivering the next generation of buildings and communities was very popular with the industry,” said Thomas Mueller, President and CEO of the CaGBC. “The CaGBC annual conference has become the national go-to event for the green building industry to learn more about newest developments and technology innovations, and to network with the best in the industry . We’re very pleased to see how motivated the industry is to continue to advance green building design, increase the performance of existing buildings and create more livable, healthier cities.”

Conference delegates can look forward to a national event in Toronto next year. CaGBC is also in discussions with the USGBC to deliver activities at GreenBuild Toronto in October 2011. Details for delegates and exhibitors will be available shortly on both the 2011 CaGBC national event and Greenbuild 2011.
