Sustainability on An Urban Scale

DURATION: 1 hour

During the last 10 years of accounting for sustainability on an urban scale, we have struggled to make the leap between the well-developed and easily defined boundaries of buildings to the more complex and fuzzy edges of neighborhoods and communities. This course will provide a brief review of the evolution of accounting for performance on a community scale, and introduces emerging ideas based on a systems approach, illustrated with practical and current project examples. The discussion will address how metrics, rating systems and frameworks fit within the future of planning for sustainability at the urban scale.

This course is delivered by Rebecca Holt of Perkins + Will.
