Responding to heightened public, corporate and political concern over climate change, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) developed GREEN UP - Canada’s Building Performance Program. An important update to the GREEN Up program will be introduced in Spring 2012.

The GREEN UP Program provides tools, performance standards and resources to help building owners and operators understand, measure and compare on-going performance of their building portfolio - helping them find efficiencies and improvements to achieve deep reductions in energy use, water use and greenhouse gas emissions.

With ever-increasing numbers of building owners and homeowners engaging in this initiative, and reporting their energy and water use, the CaGBC is creating a large, dynamic building performance database and information system for entire building sectors. This will allow reporting on energy and emissions, conservation potential and trends, performance and design standards.

Through the GREEN UP Program, building owners and managers are able to take a structured, standardized approach to:

  • recording and monitoring energy and water use and greenhouse gas emissions;
  • assessing the energy and environmental performance of their buildings;
  • setting energy and water performance targets and design standards, guided by top performers;
  • highlighting retrofit opportunities and system improvements; and
  • learning and sharing opportunities and challenges associated with managing energy and water use with sector colleagues.
