- Differentiates you as a professional – identifies you have a robust knowledge of green building principles and practices
- Shows you have specialized knowledge – shows you have expertise in a particular type of LEED project

What if I’m not sure I want the LEED AP with specialty credential?
Enrolling now in prescriptive education preserves your options and has no risk – there is no enrollment fee, and you have two years to earn the required CE hours. If you choose not to fulfill the credentialing requirements, your credential will lapse back to LEED AP, and you will have lost nothing. Enrolling buys you time to determine if upgrading adds value to you or your company in the coming years.

How do I enroll?
If you enroll with GBCI on or before your deadline you can choose between two options:
- Writing and passing any of the five specialty exams (you do not have to write the Green Associate exam)
- Committing to prescriptive continuing education for a 2-year period in order to upgrade to one of BD+C, O+M, or ID+C. If you would like to choose a specialty in an area other than that which you wrote your original LEED exam, enroll with the default specialty and then contact GBCI to switch the specialty for you.

What is prescriptive credentialing maintenance?
Enrolling in prescriptive continuing education allows existing LEED APs to earn the LEED AP with specialty (for BD+C, O+M, ID+C) credential. Prescriptive education requires LEED APs to complete a minimum number of continuing education hours on specific topics over an initial 2-year period.
The minimum hours that are part of this prescriptive education ensure that the LEED APs have completed education that mirrors the level of knowledge required to pass a specialty exams.
Below are the minimum CE-hour requirements in various subject categories for each LEED AP specialty. These minimums amount to 24 hours, six (6) additional CE hours must be earned and can come from any category. Six (6) of the 30 hours must be LEED specific.
