Overview

The Cascadia Green Building Council's mission is to lead the transformation toward a built environment that is socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative. Please see our website for more information, events and news.

Founded in 1999, Cascadia is a chapter of both the Canada and US Green Building Councils and serves the green building movement in Alaska, British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. In 2009 Cascadia launched the International Living Building Institute. Currently housed within Cascadia, the Institute is dedicated to encouraging the creation of Living Buildings, Sites and Communities in countries around the world while inspiring, educating and motivating a global audience about the need for fundamental and transformative change.

As a cross-border advocacy organization Cascadia brings a unique perspective to green building by taking a bioregional approach to problem solving and market transformation. The chapter endeavors to make significant change out of all proportion to its size, by acting as a catalyst and a lever for organizations in both the private and public sectors through creative programs, events, and tools.

Cascadia offers targeted education through our workshops, branch activities and annual Living Future unConference.

Cascadia's outreach efforts are spearheaded by regional managers, who work closely with the leaders in the public and private sectors to raise awareness of and support for true sustainability in the built environment.

Together with partners in the non-profit and for profit world, Cascadia advocates for progressive policies at the local and state levels.

Cascadia also researches best practices at the leading edge of green building and work closely with regulatory bodies to identify and remove barriers to sustainable design.

Finally, Cascadia innovates, creating new programs designed to push the green building movement forward and create a clear path to true sustainability
