Take advantage of these custom tours developed by CaGBC’s BC Chapter that will give you an up-close, in some cases, behind the scenes look at some of the region’s most impressive green building projects.

Tour #1 Setting the Standards for Health and Wellness in Downtown Commercial Buildings
Tuesday, May 30 from : 8:15 a.m.-12 p.m. | Walking Tour: Tour departs on foot from VCC
With health and wellness in the workplace increasingly recognized as an important element in attracting and retaining employees, this tour will give attendees an exclusive opportunity to view a range of commercial projects in downtown Vancouver which are incorporating health, wellness and sustainability into building design and operations.
Guests will visit Oxford Place, which includes the recently constructed MNP Tower which is targeting WELL building standard certification [Core and Shell]. The tour will include a chance to see the CaGBC Vancouver office, pursuing LEED v4 for Commercial Interiors certification and learn about the choices of materials which consider life-cycle assessment and health impacts.
The tour will also take in the CBRE offices, targeting WELL Building Standard certification. Wellness-focused design drove CBRE to build a healthy environment for employees featuring a high level of indoor air quality and unmatched access to daylight and views. The final stop on the tour will be the TELUS Garden Office Tower, which was recently certified LEED Platinum.
Tour #2 Wood on the Rise: A Walking Tour of UBC Wood Buildings

This walking tour at UBC will explore the theme of wood, stopping at the Centre for Research on Sustainability, the Bio-Energy Research Centre and Brock Commons (form of this tour depends on occupancy date - expected final completion in May 2017).
Brock Commons Phase 1 is an innovative tall wood hybrid building under construction at the University of British Columbia. Once completed, it will be one of the tallest mass timber hybrid structures in the world at 18 storeys (53 meters). The wood structure was complete less than 70 days after the prefabricated components arrived on site, approximately four months faster than a typical project of this size.
We will also walk through several other buildings on our journey (Earth Sciences Building, the First Nations House of Learning, the Nest) to sample the variety of wood design on campus.
Tour #3 Marine Gateway: An Ambitious, Transit-oriented Mix
Tuesday, May 30 from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. | Canada Line to Marine Gateway: Tour will depart from Waterfront Station (3 minute walk from the VCC West)
Marine Gateway, a new mixed-use development in south Vancouver designed by Perkins+Will in partnership with PCI Developments, has reinvented the concept of transit-oriented development to one that is transit-integrated. A compact, walkable and livable urban development has become a reality - Marine Gateway sits on a formerly underutilized industrial site that was rezoned to include a diverse mix of uses acting as the heart of a new South Vancouver neighbourhood.
As the first major development to be approved along the Canada Line, Marine Gateway is setting the benchmark for future transit-oriented projects. Guided by members of the project team who made this development a reality, guests will have the opportunity to learn about this 820,000 square foot mixed-use development which includes a district energy geo-exchange heating and cooling system with an ambient heat recovery energy loop, thermal mass, sun shading devices, and green roofs.
Tour #4 Getting to Net Zero Tour

Net zero carbon buildings, homes and neighbourhoods are a must if Canada is to meet its climate change commitments. Attendees will enjoy a guided tour of a multi-unit residential property which is currently Canada’s largest Passive House building. We will also visit research facilities at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). New requirements for energy efficient housing and buildings require changes to existing building envelope design and construction techniques, and BCIT is at the leading edge of research in this area. The tour will include the BCIT High Performance Building Lab, which provides hands-on training in high-efficiency building envelope leading to zero emissions buildings, and the Building Science Centre of Excellence which includes an environmental chamber and a Test Hut capable of conducting tests on different wall cladding materials and assemblies.
